Tudor and Stuart mintmark dater

Preview only on Free

Pick a mintmark and see which monarchs used it, the years it was current, and the mints that issued it.

What it does
Searchable index of 130+ initial marks from Edward III through Charles II. Reverse-lookup: given a mark, get the year window. Forward-lookup: given a reign, see every mark in date order.
Who it’s for
Anyone with a hammered Tudor or Stuart silver coin trying to narrow the strike date. Especially Charles I where the mark date-stamps the coin to within a year or two.

Coin grading photo gallery

Free

Side-by-side photos showing what Poor, Fair, Fine, Very Fine and Extremely Fine actually look like on real UK coins.

What it does
Visual reference for the UK adjectival grading scale (Poor → Uncirculated) with worked examples and what-to-look-for checklists. Currently a starting reference set — being expanded with more denominations and periods.
Who it’s for
Anyone trying to grade a coin by eye, especially newcomers learning what 'Very Fine' really means in numismatic practice rather than colloquial English.

Treasure Act wizard + FLO directory

Free — safety-critical

Step-by-step decision tree of whether your find triggers the 1996 Treasure Act, with contact details for every Finds Liaison Officer.

What it does
Walks the actual Treasure Act 1996 criteria — country, age, item count, metal content, prehistoric / coin / non-coin — and gives a verdict plus a clear next step. Single coins found in isolation are NOT automatically Treasure, and the wizard makes that clear.
Who it’s for
Every UK detectorist. Safety-critical because failing to report Treasure is a criminal offence — and equally important, knowing when your find is NOT Treasure stops unnecessary worry.

Coming next

The roadmap is shaped by what UK detectorists ask for. If something on this list is the one you’d use most, tell us at admin@detectid.co.uk and we’ll move it up the queue.
